My name is Pedro Redondo and this is the virtual space, where you can find diverse information about me and of mine preferred hobby.
I born in 1974, married with Carla and I have two pretty children. Patricia is the oldest and has born in 2000 and the Lara born in 2005. In the Gallery section , among the several photos that you can find there, you'll be able to see some of her photos.
I have born in Coruche a little village center-south of Portugal, but I inhabit and transmit from Setúbal, city that received me, when I started my university studies.
Regarding my academic and professional qualifications, I am a Software Engineer, graduated in 1997 and at this moment, working as an analyst and programmer for the Bank Group Crédito Agrícola.
About my interest for Amateur Radio... well, it has not been so long since I started, however a few years have passed...
We can say that, all started during my university degree, more precisely in 1994. I had some saved money (little), reserved to buy a hard drive for my computer, however my apartment collegues convinced me to buy with them a CB handheld.
We´ve made the power supplies, so when you wer at home, no need to use the batteries. I was also some source of time consuming, to do something useful !!
My collegue's interest for radio was more and more superficial, as my own interest, has increased along the time.
Later in 1996, knew that someone had a CB mobil radio to sell, so I was "forced" to sell my CB handheld, to pay part of the President Jackson... the other part has been payed with a loan that I ask to FATHER bank. Loan has been approved "et voilá" I got the money to buy the equipment, that I still have, although is been out of operation quite a long time.
Well... but I forgot something... as the handheld had antenna and power supply, that would let me make some radio contacts, my new radio, doesn't had nothing. In that time, I staid something out of operation, since I didn't have the sufficiente money to buy an antenna and a power supply. Later.. I got some funds, and I started again with my collegues, doing a power supply, however a few months later, that homebrew power supply, had quit of operation, and had to buy a commercial one.
After that, I could buy a vertical antenna for the 11 meter band Sirtel 2008. This antenna is still under operation although 8 years hava passed. With a 2 year interval I lower it down to see if everything is ok. Last time I clean it with a stainless steel brush and polish it, so that the oxidation could be removed. It was perfect after that.
Withe the Sirtel 2008 and the President Jackson, I worked 230 prefixes and a lot... lot... of QSL's which I keep with a lot of care.
Well, but time goes by, and was time to move on, so in 1997 I went to the Class "B" operator examination. Some days later I received with a lot of happyness, my Class "B" license.
There was a time of out of operation, since the values to buy either an amateur equipment, or an antenna are very high as well as the power supply unit.
I had also to save some money to make some arranjments at home, since in 1999 I was going to marry, and the house that was just perfect to me, during the time I got graduated, no longer was... can you guess whom was the idea ?
Time has moved, however my interest for ham radio was still active. And... finally I purchased my first ham radio equipment. It's a Icom IC-746, I also bought a desk microphone also from Icom, the SM-20.
Since my credit limit was at the bottom, there was no money left to buy the power supply, so I used the same I had used with the President Jackson, although in QRP mode.
I decided to move under a project to build a power supply, capable of "feed" the needs of the IC-746. Later I regreted of this experience, because due to an error, I could send the equipment to the bench... the PA was burnt !!
That was 4 years ago (2002), after that I convinced myself to buy a decent power supply. So after some thoughts and information, I decided to go on a Diamond GZV-4000, since then, I no longer had problems with power supply.
We are in 2006 and the time has come to change things here a little bit. If you wish to see more, please visit the project section, to see my present and... future projects.
